Additional information relating to breastfeeding
To be used in conjunction with individual drug entries for specific information and guidance.
Antifibrinolytics & haemostatics
Etamsylate is a haemostatic used for control of menorrhagia. It is no longer licensed in the UK.
Tranexamic acid is an oral and parenteral antifibrinolytic agent indicated for a variety of haemorrhagic conditions. It has replaced the use of etamsylate.
Blood coagulation factors
Blood coagulation factors are used in a variety of rare haemorrhagic conditions mainly associated with congenital deficiencies of natural clotting factors. Their use in breastfeeding mothers is, therefore, likely to be rare.
